1. Introduction

VibeChain is a stereo multi-FX plugin that puts ten creative processors—Filter, Tilt EQ, Compressor, Distortion, Lo-Fi, Delay, Modulation, Reverb, Stereo Width, and Sidechain—into a single, streamlined interface designed for modern music production.

What makes VibeChain unique is its Chain system: multiple instances of the plugin across different tracks can share a single Master instance. The Master controls the sound of every Chained instance in real time, so you can shape an entire mix group—drums, vocals, instruments—from one place, while still letting individual instances override any module they need to keep independent.

Whether you are running it as a simple insert to add warmth and depth to a single track, or as a multi-instance chain across your whole mix, VibeChain is built to stay musical and never get in the way.

2. Installation

System Requirements

Installing the Plug-in

  1. Download the installer package from vibechainplugin.com.
  2. Open the installer and follow the on-screen steps. Both VST3 and AU versions are installed automatically to the standard system plug-in folders.
  3. Restart your DAW. Run a plug-in rescan if your DAW requires it.
  4. VibeChain will appear in your plug-in browser under the manufacturer name VibeChain.
Note: The plug-in bundles all four reverb impulse responses internally. No external files need to be managed — everything works out of the box.

Preset Storage Location

User presets are saved to:

~/Library/VibeChain/Presets/

You can back up, share, or transfer presets by copying the .xml files in that folder to another machine.

3. Interface Overview

The VibeChain interface is divided into three sections:

Houses the Role selector (Local / Chained / Master), the Category selector (used for chain grouping), the Preset dropdown, and the Settings button.

Module Row

Ten effect modules sit side by side, each in its own card. Every card has a main knob — modules are off by default and activate when you turn the knob. Each knob controls multiple parameters simultaneously; think of it as a single macro controlling the entire character of that effect. The knob arc lights up in your accent color when active. Certain modules also include a type/mode selector (Compressor, Distortion, Reverb, Delay, Sidechain) and an Ignore Master button (visible in Chained role only). Each card also supports an optional power button — a small on/off toggle at the bottom-right of the card that can be shown or hidden via Settings → Show Power Buttons.

4. Local / Chained / Master Roles

The Role selector is the heart of VibeChain's chain system. Every instance you load independently chooses one of three roles.

Local

Default

The instance runs completely independently. All knobs and effects belong to this track alone. No sync with other instances. This is the standard way to use VibeChain as a normal insert effect on a single track.

Chained

The instance joins the selected Category group and receives real-time parameter updates from the Master instance in that category. When the Master turns on Reverb or adjusts Filter, all Chained instances in that category follow immediately.

You can still override any individual module by enabling its Ignore Master button. That module becomes independent while all others continue to follow the Master.

Master

This instance controls all Chained instances in the same Category. Every parameter change you make on the Master is broadcast live to every Chained instance in that category.

Only one Master is allowed per category. Once a Master is established in a category, every other instance that joins that same category automatically becomes Chained — there can never be two Masters in one category.

When a Master is active, its own FX processing is optional. By default, the Master passes audio dry (so it can sit on a group bus purely for control). Enable Master FX in the top bar to also apply the effects to the Master's own audio path.

Tip: Use a Master on your mix bus or group bus and set all individual track instances to Chained with the same Category. You now have one-knob control of reverb, compression, and every other effect across your whole mix group.

5. Signal Chain

Audio flows through the modules in the following fixed order:

Filter Routing: The Filter module can be placed before (Pre) or after (Post) the other effects — or set globally to Post for both LPF and HPF. This is controlled by the Filter Routing option inside the filter module and allows you to use the filter either as a creative shaper on the raw input or as a final tone-shaper on the fully processed signal.

Note: All modules are processed per-sample with smoothed parameters. Automating any knob — including live tweaks during playback — produces no clicks or zipper noise.

6. Filter

A dual-filter module with a Low-Pass Filter (LPF) and a High-Pass Filter (HPF). Each filter has its own draggable handle on the frequency display — the LPF handle sets the high-cut frequency, and the HPF handle sets the low-cut frequency. A shared Slope slider controls the steepness of both filters together. Each filter can also be independently routed Pre or Post the rest of the FX chain.

Pre / Post Button Pre / Post Pre Toggle each filter's Pre/Post routing independently. Pre places the filter before all other FX; Post places it after. Each filter has its own button.
Tip: Sweep the LPF cutoff with a high Slope value to get that classic DJ-filter effect. Automate it with the DAW for live filter drops.
Tip: Setting the Filter to Post and bringing the LPF down to around 6–8 kHz softens harsh reverb and delay tails without affecting the dry transients.

7. Tilt EQ

Tilt EQ applies a see-saw equalization curve that simultaneously boosts one end of the spectrum and cuts the other, pivoting around 850 Hz. It is a fast, musical way to shift the tonal weight of a sound without surgical precision.

Tip: Use a slight negative Tilt (−20 to −35 %) on drums to add body without low-mud. Use a positive Tilt on acoustic guitars or vocals to cut through the mix without harsh EQ surgery.

8. Compressor

A single-knob compressor with three distinct modes. Drive the Amount to push more signal into the compressor — more drive means more compression and more character.

.. Mode 2 Power — fast attack, punchy release. Snaps transients into place and adds energy. Best on drums, percussion, and anything that needs presence and snap.
... Mode 3 Weight — slow attack, long release, with built-in saturation. Heavy and dense — pushes the low-end forward and adds tape-like warmth. Use on 808s, bass, or anything you want to feel bigger and more physical.
Amount 0 – 100 % 0 % Controls how hard the signal is pushed into the compressor. More Amount means more compression and more character. Output is automatically compensated.
Note: The compressor is a per-sample design with independent L/R envelope followers. It will behave slightly differently on mono vs. stereo sources.
Tip: For 808s and bass: use Weight mode with Amount around 60–75 %. The built-in saturation adds harmonic content that makes low frequencies translate on smaller speakers.
Tip: Stack the Compressor before Distortion to fatten the signal before it hits the saturation stage — classic recording chain behavior.

9. Distortion

Four saturation algorithms, each with a distinct character. The Amount knob drives the signal into whichever mode is selected.

. Mode 1 Default Warm Tape — smooth, analog-style saturation. Adds even-harmonic warmth without sounding harsh. The most transparent of the four modes. Use at low amounts on any source for subtle color.
.. Mode 2 Hard Clip — aggressive clipping that adds edge and grit. Defined and punchy. Great on snares, synths, or anything you want to cut through harder.
... Mode 3 Fold — wave-folding distortion that creates complex, evolving overtones at higher amounts. More experimental — use on pads, synths, or sound design layers.
.... Mode 4 Crush — sample-rate and bit-depth reduction. Creates digital, lo-fi crunch with a vintage sampler quality. Combine with Lo-Fi for a full lo-fi texture.
Amount 0 – 100 % 0 % Drive into the selected mode. Higher amounts push harder and increase character. Output is automatically level-compensated.
Tip: Mode 1 at low amounts (5–20 %) makes an excellent subtle analog saturation on vocals, synths, or your mix bus. It adds presence without sounding like distortion.
Tip: Mode 4 at low amounts creates the sound of vintage 12-bit or 16-bit samplers. Combine with Lo-Fi for a full lo-fi production texture.

10. Lo-Fi

The Lo-Fi module simulates the degraded character of analog tape and vintage playback equipment. A single knob controls a combination of wow, flutter, pitch drift, bandwidth reduction, and bit depth reduction — all blended together in a way that feels natural and musical rather than mechanical.

Drift — random slow pitch wander (tape age / mechanical wear).
Bandwidth — a low-pass filter that narrows with higher amounts (simulates limited tape frequency response).
Bit Depth — reduces from 16-bit toward 8-bit, adding quantization character.
At low amounts (5–20 %) the effect adds subtle analog movement. At higher amounts (60–100 %) it becomes dramatically degraded.
Tip: Lo-Fi at 10–25 % on a drum bus adds the kind of subtle drift and warmth that makes samples feel like they were recorded to tape rather than directly into a DAW.
Tip: Combine Lo-Fi with Distortion Mode 4 for an authentic vintage sampler sound. Add Reverb for extra depth.

11. Delay

A tempo-synced stereo delay with a built-in damping filter in the feedback path, so each repeat gets progressively darker — exactly like a tape echo.

Amount 0 – 100 % 0 % Controls the wet level of the delay signal. Also drives the feedback amount — higher amounts produce more repeats and longer tails. At 100 %, feedback approaches self-oscillation territory.
Note: When Mute Tails on Stop is enabled in Settings (default), muting or soloing out an instance cuts the delay tail immediately. Disable that setting if you want the tail to ring out naturally after muting.
Tip: Use 1/16 timing on a snare or clap for a tight rhythmic slapback. Use 1/4 or 1/2 on vocals or leads for a spacious echo effect.
Tip: The damping inside the feedback path means the delay naturally darkens with each repeat. Place the Filter module in Post position and set a lower LPF cutoff for even darker, more vintage-sounding tails.

12. Modulation

A single knob blending Chorus and Flanger together. Both run simultaneously through a stereo LFO with inverted channels — one side gets the normal phase, the other gets the flipped phase — which naturally widens the stereo image as modulation depth increases.

Tip: Low amounts (10–25 %) on pads, leads, or synths add depth and width without sounding like modulation. Great for making mono sources feel three-dimensional.
Tip: At higher amounts the flanger character becomes more prominent — try it on electric piano, guitars, or textural layers for movement and character.

13. Reverb

Four reverb characters, each designed to create a different vibe rather than simulate a real space. The Amount knob controls how present and open the reverb sounds — from dark and close to bright and expansive.

... Type 3 Shimmer — bright and airy with a smooth, sustained tail. Adds presence and lift. Best on melodic elements where you want the reverb to feel alive.
.... Type 4 Swell — lush and expansive with a white-noise character. Builds into huge, ambient washes. Use on pads, FX layers, or anything meant to fill the whole space.
Amount 0 – 100 % 0 % Controls how much reverb is heard and how open it sounds. At low amounts the reverb is subtle and dark. As Amount increases, the reverb opens up and brightens.
Tip: Place the Filter in Post mode with a modest LPF to shape the reverb tail — darkening it makes the reverb feel deeper and more controlled.
Note: When Mute Tails on Stop is enabled in Settings (default), muting or soloing out an instance cuts the reverb tail immediately. Disable that setting if you want the reverb to decay naturally after muting.

14. Stereo Width

A mid-side stereo processor that adjusts the stereo field of your signal.

200 %: Maximum stereo expansion — side information doubled.
Warning: Values above 100 % increase the side signal. Always check your mix in mono after applying wide settings to ensure important elements (kick, bass, snare) do not lose energy in mono playback.
Tip: Setting Width to 0 % on a sub bass or kick drum track collapses it to pure mono, which is a standard production technique for keeping low frequencies phase-coherent.

15. Sidechain

VibeChain's Sidechain module is an internal tempo-synced gain envelope that creates rhythmic ducking — the pumping, breathing effect commonly used in electronic music. It does not require an external sidechain signal; the envelope is generated purely from the DAW's tempo and playback position, so it locks perfectly to the grid.

Amount 0 – 100 % 0 % Sets the depth of the ducking. At 0 % there is no volume reduction. At 100 % the signal is ducked to silence at the lowest point of the envelope.
Curve Slider 0 % – 100 % 50 % A horizontal slider that shapes how the volume returns after each duck. Slide continuously between positions — the envelope morphs smoothly as you move it:
0 %: Slow release — the signal eases back up gradually. Creates a wide, gentle pump with a long open phase.
50 %: Balanced release — fast enough to feel rhythmic, relaxed enough to breathe. The classic sidechain pump shape.
100 %: Very fast release — the signal snaps back almost instantly. Creates a tight, punchy pump with a short duck and a long open phase.
Note: The Sidechain envelope is locked to the DAW's playback position (PPQ). It will always start and stay on the beat. If the host is not playing, the envelope still runs but is not grid-locked.
Tip: Apply the Sidechain on a pad, synth, or reverb return track with 1/4 timing and Amount around 70–80 % for a classic four-to-the-floor pump. The curve at center gives the most natural pumping shape.
Tip: Use 1/8 or 1/16 timing on a percussion or FX layer for a rhythmic tremolo-style pumping effect that creates movement without a traditional LFO.

16. Mix & Volume Controls

VibeChain has two sets of mix and volume controls depending on the current role.

Local Controls (Always Visible)

Chain Controls (Chained / Master Role Only)

Note: When switching from Local to Chained or Master role, Local Wet and Local Volume are temporarily reset to their defaults. Your local values are saved and restored automatically if you switch back to Local role.

17. Presets

Presets store the current state of all effect parameters. The current Role and Category assignment are not stored in presets — they are per-instance settings that persist independently.

Loading a Preset

  1. Click the preset name in the top bar to open the preset dropdown.
  2. Click any preset to load it instantly.

Saving a Preset

  1. Open the preset dropdown.
  2. Click Save Preset… at the bottom of the list.
  3. Type a name and confirm. The preset is saved to disk and immediately available.

The INT Preset

INT (initialized) is the built-in default preset. It sets all effects to their neutral, bypass-equivalent state. Use it to reset a plugin instance to scratch.

Managing Presets

Presets are stored as .xml files in:

~/Library/VibeChain/Presets/

To delete a preset, remove its .xml file from that folder and restart the DAW (or reload the plugin). To share presets, copy the files to another machine at the same path.

18. Settings

Open Settings by clicking the gear icon in the top-right of the plugin window.

Color

Drag the rainbow slider to set the accent color — the color of active knob arcs, power buttons, and highlights across the entire interface. The color is saved globally and applied to all instances of VibeChain.

Click Reset to return to the default amber/orange color.

Vibe Mode

The VIBE button cycles through three display modes:

Vibe Mode is a cosmetic display feature only — it has no effect on audio.

Show Power Buttons

When enabled, a small power button (⏻) appears at the bottom-right corner of each module card. Clicking it toggles that module's effect on or off independently of the main knob. Hidden by default. This setting is saved globally across all instances.

Mute Tails on Stop

When enabled (default), clicking Mute cuts reverb and delay tails immediately — the instance goes silent right away. When disabled, tails continue to decay naturally after muting, ringing out on their own.

Help

19. Automation

All major parameters are fully automatable in any DAW that supports VST3 or AU automation. Every continuous knob (Wet, Drive, Amount, Cutoff, Width, etc.) and every power button is exposed to the DAW's automation system.

Tip: All parameters use per-sample smoothing (20ms ramp). You can automate any knob — including fast filter sweeps and wet mix changes — without hearing clicks or zipper noise.

20. Best Practices

Setting Up a Chain

The most powerful way to use VibeChain is across multiple tracks in a single session. Here is the cleanest workflow:

  1. Load VibeChain on every track you want to process as a group — drums, vocals, instruments, or the whole mix.
  2. On the instance you want to control from, set the Role to Master and pick a Category (e.g., Drums).
  3. On every other instance in that group, set the Role to Chained and select the same Category. They will immediately start following the Master.
  4. All knob movements on the Master now broadcast live to every Chained instance in the group.

21. Troubleshooting

The plugin doesn't appear in my DAW
No audio output

Does VibeChain introduce latency? Will my stems be phase-aligned?

VibeChain reports zero samples of latency to the host. This is accurate — every module in the chain, including the convolution reverb, processes audio without any algorithmic delay or lookahead:

Because the reported latency is 0, your DAW will apply no PDC offset to any track running VibeChain. Whether the Master is on a bus and Chained instances are on individual tracks, or any other routing, all tracks remain perfectly phase-aligned. No manual PDC compensation is needed.

Does the chain sync work during offline bounce and stem printing?

Yes. Automating the Master instance and printing stems offline works exactly as it does during realtime playback. When your DAW renders offline, it delivers automation events to each plugin before every audio block — the same mechanism used during live playback. When the Master receives an automation event, it synchronously updates all Chained instances in its category before the next block is processed. Each Chained instance owns its own copy of the parameter value for its audio thread, so no automation data needs to exist on Chained tracks. Automate the Master only — every Chained instance will follow, in both realtime and offline renders.
